Greg’s Road to Recovery: Reclaiming Health and Fitness
When Greg first came to Drakes Gym, he was at a challenging point in his life, both physically and mentally. Once extremely fit—maintaining just 10-12% body fat as a regular gym-goer—Greg had seen his fitness decline after a difficult period. A combination of health issues, the lockdown, pressures from running a business, and the demands of new fatherhood had taken a heavy toll. He arrived feeling frustrated, out of shape, and mentally drained. However, Greg was determined to make a change and regain control of his health.
At the start, we focused on rebuilding his strength and stability. Our sessions centred around Pilates Reformer exercises and bodyweight movements. Though initially frustrating for Greg—given his past athleticism—he embraced our advice with a remarkable work ethic. It wasn’t long before he began to see noticeable improvements, not just in his body but in his mindset too.
After establishing a solid foundation of mobility and strength, we gradually introduced more intense strength training exercises, including those Greg had enjoyed in the past. His hard work paid off dramatically. Greg reduced his body fat from 38% to an impressive 13%, while also adding significant muscle mass. His balance and mobility, which had been impacted by old hip and ankle injuries, improved significantly. More importantly, Greg’s mental health saw a complete turnaround. He felt revitalised, more positive, and saw these changes spill over into his business and family life.
