I started working with Drakes gym and specifically Wayne with a few assists from Ben a couple of years ago. I had just recently moved to the UK and was finally established and knew that I would be staying for an extended period of time and I wanted to get healthier. I was facing shoulder surgery and the doctor told me that to avoid that I would have to work really  hard at strengthening my shoulder muscles. I decided that one of the things that I would do was going to be Pilates. I had done it before and I knew how great it was for low impact resistance training, and I could barely move my shoulder at the time. I have also done strength training with Wayne. I did a lot of research before finding Wayne and knowing that he was the right fit to help me on my journey. It took 18 months for the surgeon to say that I no longer needed surgery, if I kept it up. At 53 I am proud to say that I lost 30 kilos, it took 3 years, and that I am the strongest and healthiest that I have ever been. I couldn’t have done it with his patience, attention and care to my injuries (I also have a very bad right ankle and issues that came with that). It was a slow and steady progress. I wish that people had told a long time ago, that as a woman of my age, I needed to do strength training, and I wish that I had started sooner but, I can’t believe the accomplishments that I achieved in trying to avoid surgery. I went from 42% body fat to 28% and I gained muscle. The InBody check-ups were very motivating to me.
I have hypothyroidism and for the first time since 1998, they have lowered my dosage and I am on half a pill every other day. I can’t thank Wayne and Ben enough for what they have helped me achieve.

Just love this place. It’s small, intimate, not like those chain gyms and all the team are friendly. I have to say, it’s the only time I have ever made it to the gym in the mornings early and enjoyed it! Not only that, it’s not the easiest place for me to get to, from home or work, but the work outs make it worth the effort. Bea is great, she’s tough on me, but also understands those days, when a bit more coffee is needed before going hardcore! I would recommend Drakes to anybody and only wish I’d known about it earlier.
